therapeutic stitches

012

For the third time, cancer has darkened our doorstep.  This time it was Mr. Sunshine and I was having such a hard time with that.

019

To occupy my mind…and soul…during the many hours in waiting rooms while he went through testing, procedures, surgery and recovery, I gathered some yarn and began to crochet.  One of the most calming things one can do without a lot of concentration.

003

Last night I crocheted the very last stitch.  And I have a pretty little afghan.  It was very therapeutic for me.  But it isn’t mine…I hope to give it to someone else who could also use some comfort…perhaps Hospice or a Care Center.  I hope it helps someone else just like it did me.

And Mr. Sunshine is doing very well…we think we got it all.

Happy to hear that Mr. S. is on the road to recovery. Your afghan was theraputic for you to make; it is generous of you to pass it on.

So glad to hear Mr. Sunshine will be OK...that is such a calm little afghan...it will bring pleasure to someone. I give my home made blankets to Project Linus...they go to children who are suffering from many things from life threatening illness to trauma...it's a wonderful feeling to give them away. Take care!

I was putting some order to my sewing table top today and came across the little fabric squares of window views you sent, and it made me smile and think of happy little houses, and your beautiful finished quilt.
Then to read tonight of the C word scare, oh, my; I'm so sorry for the dark valley you have been walking through. I'm glad the news is good. You have made good use of that time, the afghan is sweet, and will bring comfort to someone in need.
Blessings, pokey

Glad to hear that Mr. Sunshine is doing well. Love your afghan blanket, strange how we are in the same mood:
I made actually one granny quilt square, remembering my 1970' years when I learn to crochet these grannies, and want to make two other multicoloured one in fabrics & one crocheted !

I'm so glad Mr. Sunshine is doing well. My own "Mr. Chocolate Chip" has heart issues and every time there is a flare-up I'm right back to the top of my stress meter.

Love your therapeutic afghan! It will bring lots of comfort to whoever receives it and they will know it was made with love.

What a charming afghan, I love the colors. And what a sweet gesture to give the comfort of handmade to someone else. I am recovering from emergency back surgery and I think this would be something that I could work on while doing "nothing" - no bending, no lifting, no twisting - which really limits what I can do - but I can sit and crochet, and then I would have a gift for someone else when I have finished my recuperation.

What size yarn did you use? And what size did each little square come out to be? I am excited now, to begin. Don will be happy to gather yarns for me, and fortunately I know exactly where the crochet hooks are LOL. Thanks again for the inspiration, and I'm glad Mr. S is doing well.
