What do you think?

count your blessing the rest of your life

These awesome dishtowels were given to me 32 years ago at my wedding shower.  They were made especially for me by my friend Karen, who I haven’t seen for many years. I adored these when I first saw them.  I still do.  They have sat in the linen closet all this time because I don’t want to dry dishes with them.  So I just pull them out once in a while to look at and then back they go.

For some reason, they popped into my head first thing out of bed this morning and I wondered if they could be made into a quilt!  A light bulb moment!  The towels aren’t quilt material, but for me it would be just a special quilt, maybe one that could lay at the foot of our bed.

Do you think this is a wise idea?

Any advice?

Darling towels, and the perfect bridal shower gift too!

I love the quilt idea, and I think your old friend would be thrilled to have them preserved like that.

I think it's a wonderful idea! Now you'll be able to enjoy them everyday. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

That'd be great! I can't think of the name of it right now, but there is a stabilizer you can get at the quilt shop (or Joann's) that is supposed to be to stabilize t-shirts for a t-shirt quilt, maybe you should back those blocks with something like that, so they don't fray or get too worn out where they are embroidered?
They are too cute!

Those are tooo cute. I see people make quilts out of everything, I don't see why not. I was thinking the same thing on the T-shirts (they are the rage now). The good thing about making it into a quilt is that they aren ot tucked away in a box in a closet only to be looked at every blue moon. They are on your bed being displayed and enjoyed. Would love to see the quilt. I think they would look good with some sashing around them. Good Luck.

I think it a great idea to make a quilt out of the towels. You will get to enjoy them more and that will honor the maker.

Measure your eating table and make a table cover size quilt out of them!

Absolutely, Annette! Better than sitting in the closet. Go for it!

I just love them.

I definately think so. Then you would enjoy them every day just not when you dragged them out of the closet. Go for it!!

Hi Annette. I'm guessing that the dishtowels are 100% cotton, perhaps a bleached muslin. I would go ahead and make the quilt that you are considering, but if you don't get around to doing that soon I would recommend that you start drying dishes with the towels. Use them and enjoy them. What use is this gift if it remains hidden in a closet? Truly, we take nothing with us when we go. Now is the time to enjoy them, so go ahead and enjoy them, remember your friend with each wipe of a dish.

I think that is a great idea! then you could look at them all the time instead of them being shoved away in a cupboard. I don't think it matters that they are not quilting fabric.

Hi Annette,
I think this is a wonderful idea.
I have made a quilt that includes lots of tea towels and old pyjamas etc and it washes and wears well.

I know you wouldn't include the old pyjamas..he he
but nicer to be seen and treasured.
What about a wallhanging?
I say go for it!

I think those are way too special to be tucked away. I would think you could quilt them or even put them in a frame to hang in your kitchen.

What a cute set of towels!! I agree with the other commenters, either make them into a quilt using a stabilizer to firm them up a little or use them as towels and enjoy them.

This brought back fun memories for me. I have a set just like these in my cedar chest. My sister, Pat, made them for me for my bridal shower. I couldn't bring myself to use mine either:o) I think your idea of a quilt is a great one! (I'm so happy we ran into each other last week. It was so nice to see you!)

Those towels are so adorable! And what a lot of embroidery work! My grandmother used to embroider towels on flour sacks and I do have a baby quilt that she made from the same towel fabric. It was great! Can you check the thread for colorfastness? I can see it made up in 30's or 40's fabric!

If you're not going to use them to dry dishes, you might as well use them for a quilt. I think they would be cute that way!
