Honey I shrunk the quilt!

page 30

On page 30 of the latest AP&Q magazine is an awesome quilt called “Summer Salsa” designed by Kathie Holland.  It just jumped right out and begged me to make it!  (Maybe it’s all that sunshine yellow).   But I already have a few too many unfinished quilts going at the moment and I don’t dare start another one.  So, instead, I decided to shrink it down into a small project.

miniaturized

The original quilt is 77” x 85” with 6” blocks.  My little quilt has 1 1/2” blocks and finished at 17” x 19.”

little salsa

It was a fun thing to try!

(By the way, I’ve decided the skitty-wampus blocks together with the wavy lines could possibly make one a bit seasick, so I will be more careful with that from now on).

Love this idea...I'm excited to do the quilt along of Darlene's quilt too...and I'm going to do the smaller version for the same reason!

I love your mini version of this quilt. The one in the magazine is calling my name very loudly. Today I pulled out fabrics to make this quilt even though I have numerous other projects I should work on first. Oh well the siren song of a quilt can not be ignored!!! Thanks for the inspiration.

Those skitty wampus blocks don't bother me one bit -- I kinda like them. I love your little quilt -- the colors are fantastic!

It looks fantastic as a doll quilt and what a great idea to get a quilt out of our system without the time a big one would take.

I just got myself a copy of APQ with Kathie's quilt in it and now seeing it in miniture wow! You meant 1/2" square for the nine patch? I might have to make one too, if you don't mind - Hugs Nat

Seasick I think not!! It's absolutely beautiful the way it is. Fantastic that you were able to shrink it down to a manageable sized project in order to complete it quickly.
Aloha!

Love your mini version. Since I brought home that issue of AP&Q I keep opening that page and day dream about which fabrics I'll use to make that delicious quilt. I just love the idea of shrinking it down. You still satisfy the desire to play with fabrics!
